Purpose Of The Site

Who Am I....Who Am Us

In relation to this website, one of the most important paricopes of scripture is found in the very 1st chapter of Matthew, verses 1-17. There is a list of 42 generations (broken up into 3 groups of 14) tracing the genealogy/bloodline from Abraham to Jesus the Christ. Also in the old testament there is a tracing of many of Abraham's forefathers; as well as a lineage that spurs out from Adam.

Janna, Jena, and myself were talking on the phone one day and I had an epiphany of sorts. I said to them, "I have never heard our mother or father talk much of anything about their grandparents...let alone their great grandparents."

Looking at my young children and thinking about so much history we have lost because of the society we live in; and the scattering, or just flat out destruction, of much of our history is bothersome.

But where there is hope and desire there is always opportunity. Desire always has a goal, but quite often it doesn't have a plan. With that said, the goal of this website is to make sure my children, as well as yours, know who their family is, and thereby have a better idea of who they are and how great God made them to be.

Although our family has stories of failures and identity struggles, there are so many testimonies of success and triumphing over life's temptations, trials, & tribulations. Please understand success is not always piles of money or an array of accolades. Although those things can represent physically what success is they are not it. Success is a mentality that sets a goal and progressively works toward accomplishing it..... And in some instances going above and beyond.

Our family has so many stories like this that go untold or unknown or unnoticed and sometimes just hearing about and knowing greatness is in your bloodline is enough of a catalyst to cause a reaction within that can change the circumstances of your lineage...for the better.

With that said..... Here we grow...

Understanding A Modern Family's Dynamic Makeup

What is a first, second, third, etc. cousin?

First COUSINS share a set of grandparents, second cousins share a set of great-grandparents, and third cousins share a set of great-great-grandparents. As the generations between the two cousins increases, so does the degree of cousin-hood. The degree of cousin-hood (first, second or third) is determined by the number of generations between two cousins and their nearest common ancestor.

  1. - First Cousins - are the children of a person's aunt or uncle. For instance, Polly's mother has a sister, Suzie. Suzie has a daughter named Lilly. Polly and Lilly are first cousins. Since Polly's mother and her sister Suzie have the same parents, Polly and Lilly share a set of grandparents. This means there is one generation between Polly and Lilly and their common ancestor.
  2. - Second Cousins - are the children of first cousins. Polly's children and Lilly's children would be second cousins since they share a set of great-grandparents. This means there are two generations between them and a common ancestor.
  3. - Third Cousins - are the grandchildren of first cousins. Polly's grandchildren and Lilly's grandchildren would be third cousins, as they share a set of great-great-grandparents but have three generations between them and a common ancestor. This continues down the line until there is no longer a common ancestor between two people.

"Immediate Family" vs. Extended Family"

Immediate family refers to a person's smallest family unit, consisting of the closest relatives, such as parents, siblings, and children. An immediate family may contain both biological relatives and those related through marriage, such as a brother-in-law. Exact inclusions for the immediate family may differ depending on which law or organization governs the determination.

Whereas, Extended family would consist of cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.
